Due to the NDA that I have signed working on this project - I am unable to disclose much details regarding the features of specific screens but here is a summary of what I did.

 
 

The Problem  

In urban areas, finding parking can be a huge pain. There’s simply not enough public parking spaces available. Americans are overpaying for parking, costing them more than $20 billion a year or $97 per driver. Americans are also spending an average of 17 hours per a year searching for parking, resulting in a cost of $345 per driver in wasted time, fuel, and emission.

The Solution  

A platform where users (hosts) can provide a quicker, safer, and easier way for users (guests) to park their cars, by allowing them to reserve a parking spot ahead of time, so they can save time and money spent looking for parking.

USers and Audience

This app is targeted for anyone living in the city where public parking is limited. From event goers and travelers who are looking to safely park their vehicles during their event, to homeowners who can earn extra income by renting out their parking space that’s not being used.

 

 

Team and Role

This project have already been started with a previous designer, but due to lack of time and commitment, I took over this project as the sole lead UX/UI designer, working with the Stakeholder. In order for me to fully understand the goals of this project and the needs of our users, I conducted user interviews to learn users motivations, goals, and their pain points. With the existing wireframes provided, I was able to improve on it and map out user flows in order to provide a better user experience.

 

 

DESIGN PROCESS

 
 

RESEARCH

To kickoff this project, I’ve developed a research plan and interview script for the stakeholder to have a better idea of how I will gather information and insights to better inform my design decisions and stay focused on the goals.

I conducted interviews with targeted users to better understand their goals, motivations, and pain points of their shopping and social media behaviors.

 
 

Personas

Using 2 of the targeted users I’ve interviewed with, I created 2 personas (the guest and the host) to better help me understand their behaviors and motivations.

 

 

Competitive Analysis

To help me understand the market and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of other parking apps that exists, I did some competitive analysis of potential competitors and identify opportunities and threats.

 
 

USER STORIES

In order for me to better understand what to build, for whomwhy, and when - I’ve compiled some user stories based in order to prioritize and focus on the specific users and defining the features and tasks needed in order to achieve their goals.

 

 

User interface design

Upon taking on this project, there were no design system nor a style guide that exists so I was excited to be able to help establish a brand for KNET’s app, deciding on the typography and color palette. I was gravitated to a font called “Circular Std” that I find very fitting for this app as it removes the need for users to “circle” around until they find parking. I also established the primary colors to be different shades of blue, as it is the color associated with “parking” in the U.S. It is also a calming color and finding parking can be quite stressful.

FINAL THOUGHTS

 
 

This project started out as Wing’s passion project and I truly do believe it to be an incredibly unique app that will be widely used in the bay area, benefiting many of drivers. As my MVP prototype is completed, it is currently awaiting for development. I really enjoyed working on this project and can not wait to pick it back up to see it in the market soon!
